A GENDER AGENDA URGES COMMUNITY TO SUPPORT TRANS* DAY OF REMEMBRANCE
Trans* Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual, international day to honour and memorialise individuals murdered as a result of transphobia and bigotry every year. A Gender Agenda is facilitating Canberra's 2010 TDOR event, with an evening of reflection, community support and drinks this Friday 19.11.10.
We urge all community members and supporters to take this opportunity to condemn transphobic violence and honour the memory of the victims of these crimes. It is also a time to reflect on the strength, vivacity and spirit of the transgender community which continues to flourish despite attempts to destroy it.
Gabrielle Hitch, spokesperson for A Gender Agenda, believes that the importance of TDOR exists in its dual purpose: "Trans* Day of Remembrance allows us to collectively mourn the cruel and unjust deaths while simultaneously celebrating the integrity, beauty and vibrancy of trans* lives. It is a special opportunity to embrace community support and pay tribute to trans community members, past and present".
TDOR will be held at the God's Cafe in Acton (ANU), from 5:30-7pm, Friday 19.11.10.
